How we look after your details
Who we are. Time Well Spent Group Limited, registered company 10204110, publisher of Shooting Times & Country Magazine, Trout & Salmon, Airgun World, Sporting Gun, Fieldsports Journal, Rifle Shooter and Gundog Journal. Questions or requests: orders@twsgroup.com or 0131 357 6305, Mon–Fri 10am–4pm.
What we collect when you subscribe. Your name, email and delivery address, so we can deliver your magazines and confirm your order. We never see or store your payment details. If you pay by Direct Debit, you set it up on the secure page of GoCardless, our Direct Debit provider — your sort code and account number go to them, not to us. If you pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, your payment goes directly to Stripe, our payment provider — card details never touch our systems.
Our payment providers. GoCardless Ltd collects Direct Debits on our behalf and Stripe processes card and wallet payments; both are FCA-authorised and hold your payment details securely under their own privacy policies. What comes back to us is only what we need to run your subscription: confirmation you have paid, and the name, email and delivery address you gave at checkout. Your Direct Debit is protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.
Where your details live. Order records are kept on servers in the United Kingdom. Your subscription is managed in our subscription system, which is how your magazines reach you. We keep order records for six years because tax law requires it, then delete them.
Cookies. When you first arrive we ask whether you are happy with cookies. The essential ones keep your basket and your order working and help us keep the shop secure, and they are always on because the shop cannot work without them. The rest are set only if you say yes: measurement cookies count how many people visit and which pages they read, and advertising cookies let us see which of our adverts brought a subscriber. You can change your answer whenever you like from the Cookies link at the foot of any page, and saying no does not stop you subscribing.
Measuring our advertising. We advertise our magazines on Google and Facebook. If you accept advertising cookies, we tell Google and Meta when an order is completed, with what was paid and an order reference, so we can see which adverts are worth the money. To match your order to the advert you clicked, we also send Google a scrambled (hashed) form of your name, email address and postcode, which cannot be read back into your details and which Google may use only for that matching. Where we confirm a sale from our own server rather than from your browser, a scrambled form of your email address goes to Meta for the same purpose. Google and Meta are in the United States, and those transfers are covered by the UK’s data bridge to the US and the standard safeguards the law requires. We never send them your payment details, and we never let them use your details for anyone else’s advertising.
Marketing. We only send you offers if you are or were a subscriber and only about our own magazines, and every email has an unsubscribe link that works. We never sell or share your details for anyone else's marketing.
Texts. If you give us a mobile number, we may text you about our own magazines, the same offers we email, never anything else. Every text tells you how to stop: reply STOP and we will not text you again. Texts are charged at your network's standard rate, and we never send them if you have told us not to.
Who sends our emails and texts. We use Dotdigital (UK) and Mailchimp (Intuit, United States) to send them. They hold your name, email address and mobile number for that purpose only and cannot use them for anything else. Mailchimp is in the United States; the transfer is covered by the UK's data bridge to the US and the standard safeguards the law requires. We also see whether an email or text was opened and which links were tapped, which we use to decide what to send next.
How long we write to former subscribers. Once a subscription ends, we may still email or text you about coming back for up to five years, unless you tell us to stop, which you can do at any time using the link or STOP reply in any message, or by emailing orders@twsgroup.com.
Your rights. You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (we keep only what tax law obliges us to). Email orders@twsgroup.com. If we ever let you down, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
